Winter in Moldova - Reflections from Mike Stachura
Field Notes from Mike Stachura
Reaching out to the blind
Soon after Pastor Victor’s return to Moldova, he joined with a local evangelist to preach the Gospel to a group of blind students and adults. It was the first time that anyone had shared the Gospel with them. Physically and mentally handicapped Moldovans have almost no public care/assistance, and are often abandoned by their families.
Compassion Gifts from Grace
WINTER has set in hard in Moldova! Grace Church’s Compassion Fund again this year provided thousands of dollars for food parcels, fuel (compressed sunflower residue) for heating, and Christmas gifts for widows, children, and poor families throughout the region of Nisporeni. THANK YOU, GRACE CHURCH!
Food for High School Students
Each afternoon, Pastor Victor and his wife Emilia feed up to 12 high school students a hearty supper. The youth are now all attending Betania (Bethany Church) Church youth group on Wednesday night, hearing the Gospel and tangibly experiencing the care of Christ’s love. Pray for their salvation.
Home Visits among the Poor, the Elderly, and the Lonely
Going into the homes of the poor in winter is a challenge. Very little heat available. Whole families sit on top of the bed throughout the day, keeping off the cold, damp concrete or dirt floors. Our pastoral team members (Victor, Emilia, Arcadi, Natasha, Nicu, Stefanie, and Spiridon) all make a special event to go door-to-door to visit these families. God opens opportunities to share the Gospel with such families, as they are often alone (parents are working in Russia or western Europe) and without much food or fuel.
Matthew 25: 37ff: “Lord, when did we see you hungry…thirsty…a stranger… needing clothes…sick…and go visit you? …”I tell you the truth: whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
