When Marlene and her husband, Jim, arrived at Grace nearly 14 years ago, they were asked early on if they would like to greet families in the preschool area. Their response was “Sure, we’d love to!” That volunteer time wove its way into Marlene’s heart and the position evolved into a Preschool Coordinator. She enjoys ensuring the youngest of our children at Grace have a safe and happy place to be, to grow, and to learn of God’s love for them. She also delights in a well-organized area of nursery rooms and classrooms, smiles on kids’ and parents’ faces, and everyone confident that these young ones are in good hands.
Her two children, a boy and a girl, are now grown. Their son was born in Kenya, where she and Jim served with Cru for 20 years. Their daughter was born in China and was adopted at seven months (while we were still living in Kenya). She loves their mix of backgrounds and how having lived internationally has helped them see the world through a wider lens.
Marlene is passionate about photography and has a few of her photos published locally. Recently, she began a "life list" - a birding term for a list of bird species seen in the wild. It's a pretty short list, but she is working on it! And last, she always has a pet dog, currently a rescued mix full of affection and spunk, named Millie.
