Bumps Along The Way...

No matter what shape it comes in transition is always tough. One of the 'givens' for life and leadership in the local church is transition. Vision stirs transition (we've been living this with Engage Fayette). Transition also results when parts of our family move away and voids are left, or when changes in life circumstances require people to step away, or when new people step into opportunities to serve and lead. And one thing we can always count on with transition is that it will require adjustment - for everyone. There will be bumps along the way...

One of the areas where we've experienced transition in recent months is with those who lead us in worship. Many of the familiar faces who have led us for years have stepped away for a variety of reasons. So we've been exploring a variety of options as we look to the future. One of them is a team led by younger leaders (Isaac, Andrew, Susan and Silvi). It reflects our commitment to invest in the next generation by providing them opportunities to learn to lead. Frank Fortner is joining Julie Ross in leading our primary worship team. Frank and his family have been attending and serving at Grace for some time now. Frank is an experienced worship leader and musician with a heart for leading people into a genuine encounter with God. Combined with Julie's heart and experience, Frank and Julie will provide great leadership. You will be seeing some new vocalists. And we have been moving some people into new roles in the sound booth.

We are working with everyone to learn and respect the Grace culture as well as develop chemistry and a comfortable working relationship with each other. But there will be bumps...

I want to thank each of you who have voiced your questions and concerns. As we learned Sunday we want to be a community that addresses things with honesty and passion. You have done that well! Your voice is being heard and we are working hard to address them in appropriate ways. Our commitment is to provide a worship environment that invites our family (with all our uniqueness and diversity) to encounter God in a comfortable and meaningful way. It's a pretty big challenge.

I would like to invite your help in this transition process. Pray for us as we work our way through this transition. Be patient with us as we learn. Be understanding with the bumps. Offer your support and encouragement to those who serve us. Then celebrate with us that God is providing new people who have a passion and heart to serve us in the future.

Fighting For Your Heart,

Gary
