Tafere Fentahun Desta was born in northern Ethiopia in 1971. Despite a difficult childhood, he was able to complete high school. His grandmother had told him about God, but didn’t experience God himself until he found himself as a wizard’s apprentice and regularly doing drugs. He witnessed an evil spirit driven out of a friend and the spirit told him that he had no authority over it. He bought a Bible and read the book of John. That same night he had a dream with a dark angel and an angel in white telling him to choose who he will follow. He woke up shouting “Jesus is Lord!” and accepted Jesus as his savior that same day.

Twenty years ago, he met Mark and Debbie MacLachlan and started working as their personal compound guard. He later moved with the MacLachlans to a little town and helped start the 5F’s Project. 5Fs is forest, fruit, and forage for farm families. After finishing his four year college degree, he became the director of 5Fs.

Now he supervises the 5F’s director, coordinates the northwest outreach ministry of SIM Ethiopia and he is gifted in guiding Orthodox priests into a living relationship with Christ. The desire is for them to know the Word and continue in their churches as faithful shepherds.

  1. Pray for local Christians to understand truth and not follow false prophets. - Acts 20:29-30 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.

  2. Farmers are asking for spiritual training…pray that we have wisdom in encouraging them.

  3. Pray for the Orthodox priests who are secretly receiving monthly Bible training to truly learn, understand, and obey God’s word.

  4. Pray for Mulu So, the 5F’s director, to truly take ownership of the project for the Kingdom of God.

  5. Ask God to equip Tafere to be a good leader, father, and husband.
