Jesus Shaped Hospitality for people facing unimaginable pain.

Face2Face: Jesus-Shaped Hospitality

We’re examining the ways Jesus welcomed into his life people outside the culturally acceptable and comfortable categories – what the NT referred to as the ‘stranger’ - in story after story Jesus modeled a way of life marked by compelling love and courageous hospitality for the stranger.

As we read Jesus’ stories we are also examining our stories – does our way of life reflects Jesus’ way of life … do we welcome the stranger with compelling love and courageous hospitality?

Thoughts on spiritual formation as we follow Jesus

We want to guard against seeing a series like this only in terms of something else ‘to do’… better to see it as an invitation for Jesus to shape us into His likeness in the ways we see and love people.

Then what He leads us ‘to do’ flows from who he is shaping us to be … and the ways He leads us to ‘live out’ what we’re learning become uniquely personal expressions of our walk with Christ.

In our 1st story we looked at Jesus F2F with a Samaritan woman – welcoming people across the boundaries of our prejudices - racial, religious and gender.

In our 2nd story we looked at Jesus F2F with Zacchaeus – welcoming people we don’t trust b/c they have hurt us in the past

In our 3rd story we looked at Jesus F2F with a blind man named Bartimaeus – welcoming people with lifelong struggles/suffering (blindness) who are seen but not not noticed.

Today we ask: What if we displayed compassion with such freedom that our message about Christ became compelling?
